The aim of the present study was to evaluate the distribution of polymorphisms for the androgen receptor (AR) (CAG, StuI, GGN), SRD5A2 (Ala49Thr, Val89Leu) and CYP17 (MspA1) genes that are considered to be relevant for risk of prostate cancer. We studied 200 individuals from two cities in the State of São Paulo, by PCR, PCR-RFLP and ASOH techniques. The allelic frequencies of the autosomal markers and the StuI polymorphism of the AR gene were very similar to those described in most North American and European populations. In relation to the CAG and GGN number of repeats, the study subjects had smaller repeat lengths (mean of 20.65 and 22.38, respectively) than those described in North American, European and Chinese populations. In the present study, 30.5%... |

The objective of this work was identify the presence of interstitial cells of Cajal, muscle cells, nerves and androgen receptor positive cells in adult human testicle, using immunohistochemical detection for c-kit/CD-117, actin smooth muscle specific (ASMS), neurofilament (N) and androgen receptor (AR), respectively. The samples were obtained from patients (n= 10) with diagnosis of prostate cáncer, with surgery of orchiectomy. Subsequently were processed by histology and for immunohistochemistry using specific antibodies. It showed the presence of cells c-kit/CD-117, with diverse degrees of positivity, distributed mainly in the interstitial peritubular área of the human testicle. The peritubular myoides cells were positive to the presence of the actin... |

Abstract Background The muskrat is a seasonal breeder. Males secrete musk to attract females during the breeding season. The testosterone binding to the androgen receptor (AR) in musk glands of muskrat may play an important role conducting the musk secretion process. Methods The musk gland, testis and blood samples of musk rats are collected in both breeding and non-breeding seasons. Some part of the samples are kept in liquid nitrogen for transcriptome analysis and Western blotting test. Some part of the samples are kept in 70% alcohol for histology experiment, blood samples are kept at −20 °C for the serum testosterone measurement experiment. Results This study demonstrates that the quantity of secreted musk, the volume of the musk... |

To explore whether an environment of weightlessness will cause damage to the reproductive system of animals, we used the tail-suspension model to simulate microgravity, and investigated the effect of microgravity on the tissue structure and function of the testis in sexually mature male rats. Forty-eight male Wistar rats weighing 200-250 g were randomly assigned to three groups (N = 16 each): control, tail traction, and tail suspension. After the rats were suspended for 7 or 14 days, morphological changes of testis were evaluated by histological and electron microscopic methods. The expression of HSP70, bax/bcl-2 and AR (androgen receptor) in testis was measured by immunohistochemistry. Obvious pathological lesions were present in the testis after the rats... |
